Depart From Me, You Evildoers!

Posted on

Do works play a part in salvation? Some would say no, you simply have to profess faith in Jesus. But the words of Jesus tell a different story.

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 13, Jesus is asked if only a few will be saved. He replies, "Strive to enter through the narrow gate." He then talks of people who knew him, but He responds, "Depart from me, all you evildoers!"

This intimates that those who do evil, despite what they say or who they know, will not enter heaven. As Catholics, we don't believe in works alone or faith alone, but faith and works. Our hearts and minds must be in the right place, and our actions must follow.

Father, may we profess faith in Christ, and live our faith through word and deed. Amen.
