When it comes to God, the family is pretty large. What do I mean? In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus says, “For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.” Let’s pray that we are among that group, and that it will continue to grow.
David was a man after God’s own heart. He was unabashed and effusive in his praise. We see this clearly today in our first reading from 2 Samuel 6. David “came dancing before the LORD with abandon, as he and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the LORD with shouts of joy and to the sound of the horn.” I love that phrase, “with abandon.” Is that how we worship God?
I believe that we are called to be enthusiastic about our faith – like David. Now, I’m not saying that we have to dance before the LORD with abandon, necessarily. In my case that would probably turn more people off than anything. But I believe that when we receive the Eucharist, our hearts should be "dancing for joy." We should be blown away and filled with joy and gratitude at the amazing privilege we have in receiving Jesus. The next time you receive Holy Communion, don't dance up and down the aisle (that would be inappropriate), but make your sure your heart is dancing for joy.
Father, may we praise you with abandon, in whatever way you ask us to. May our hearts dance with joy at every opportunity. Amen.
