Curiosity About Jesus

Posted on

There is a phrase used twice in today’s first reading from Haggai1: “Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways!” Good advice for us. Sometimes we get so stuck in our ways (read: sinful patterns) that we never consider that God may have a different way in mind. Let’s take that advice today and consider our ways!

In the Gospel reading from Luke 9 we read about Herod’s curiosity about Jesus. We know that Herod was fascinated with John the Baptist, even though he had him beheaded. He had a similar curiosity with Jesus. He said, “Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see him.

I think many people today are similarly curious about Jesus. They hear a lot about Him. Unfortunately, often what they take away is from watching the actions of those who profess to believe in Him. That should be a stark reminder that we are representatives of Jesus. Many will draw their conclusions about Jesus by what we say and do. Let’s remember that the next time we run into someone who is curious about Jesus.

Father, we know that there are many today seeking answers. Help us today to show others a Jesus that is loving and merciful. Amen.
