Choosing Your Destiny

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 4, Jesus drives a demon from a man. All are amazed at His power and authority. In our first reading from 1 Thessalonians 5, we read about our destiny.

"Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober. For God did not destine us for wrath, but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him."

So we are destined to gain salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord. That's good news! But is that destiny automatic? Does it come to us without effort, cost or condition? Of course not. You see, we get to choose our destiny. When we choose to take up our cross daily and follow Jesus, then our eternal destiny awaits - life eternally with Him. So what destiny will you choose today?

Father, may we choose to follow your Son Christ Jesus today, and every day, that we might enjoy eternal beatitude. Amen.
