Bringing Our Children Back

Posted on

The first verse of today's first reading, Hebrews 12:1, says that "we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses." Who are these folks? The Communion of Saints!

In the Gospel reading from Mark 5, a synagogue official named Jairus asks Jesus to come and heal his daughter, who was near death. Jesus goes to Jairus' house, takes the little girl by the hand and brings her back to life.

This story is very close to my heart because our first daughter had a near drowning experience and God spared her. He brought her back to us. When we went to church after the incident, this was the Gospel reading. Amazing! Many people have children who have lost the faith. As a parent, it is heartbreaking. Parents should take hope in this story. Jesus can bring our children back. It is our job to be like Jairus and plead with Him to do so.

Father, we bring our children to you and ask you to bring them back to you. Give us the faith of Jairus. Amen.
