Blazing Hearts

Posted on

In the first reading today from Romans 6, St. Paul talks about sanctification. “But now that you have been freed from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit that you have leads to sanctification, and its end is eternal life.” To sanctify means to make holy. So, you are being made holy today!

I just love the Gospel reading for today from Luke 12. Jesus explains to the disciples that He has come not to establish peace, but division. He goes on to say how He will be source of division, even in families. But before He says that, He says this: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Of course, Jesus didn’t mean He literally wanted to burn down the earth. He was talking about hearts. Our hearts!

This begs the question: Is your heart on fire for Jesus? If not, why not? And if so, then is it showing? Could someone look at you, at your life and say, Wow! That person is really on fire for Jesus! If our hearts are truly burning with the love of Jesus, it will show in our every action. We don’t necessarily have to say a word, though that never hurts. So, take a temperature check on your heart today. If it is only warm, ask God to turn up the heat with the love of Christ. Turn and burn, baby!

Father, may our hearts be blazing with love for Christ Jesus! May that burning love guide all that we say and do this day. Amen.
