Beautiful Feet

Posted on

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of St. Andrew. Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter, whom he introduced to Jesus. Tradition says he died on an "X" shaped cross because he thought himself unworthy to die on a cross identical to our Lord's.

The Gospel reading is the call of Simon and Andrew from Matthew 4. Jesus said to the brothers, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." They then left their nets and followed him. In the first reading from Romans 10, St. Paul quotes Isaiah 52 and writes, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news!" I'm thinking Andrew had some beautiful feet!

Feet can be pretty gnarly. And in those days before modern shoes and hygiene, they were probably pretty filthy. But when one brings the good news of Jesus, it puts a whole new look on those feet! So, how do your feet look these days? Are you bringing the good news of Jesus to others? If so, then you've got some beautiful feet as well.

Father, help us imitate St. Andrew and bring the good news to all. Amen.
