Today's Gospel reading from Matthew 8 is the story of Jesus calming the storm on the sea. Our first reading is from Amos 3 and 4.
The Lord told his people Israel that the time was coming when they would pay the price for their sins and crimes. "So now I will deal with you in my own way, O Israel! and since I will deal thus with you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel."
Maybe you've seen the scene in an old movie where someone is about to be killed and they're told to "Prepare to meet your maker." Here on earth, we "meet" God in many different ways. But what about that final meeting, when your life here is over and you will face judgment? Are you ready for that? Honestly, it's a scary prospect. That's why we must remember that all we do here on earth is preparation for that ultimate meeting with God. How are you preparing for that moment today?
Father, may we prepare well today for the day when we will meet you face to face. Amen.
