Anxious and Worried

Posted on

Today's Gospel reading from Luke 10 is the familiar story of Martha and Mary. Jesus came to their home to dine. Martha complains to Jesus that Mary is not helping her.

Jesus said, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her."

Martha's condition is not at all unusual. So many of us find ourselves anxious and worried...about many things. Work, family, health, politics, inflation, finances, the list is potentially endless. With all theses things troubling us, do we choose the better part? Just spending time with Jesus and leaving all those other things behind? We should.

Father, may we set aside our anxiousness and worries and be with and listen to Jesus. Amen.
