In today's Gospel reading from Matthew 22, Jesus tells a parable to the chief priests and elders of the people about a king who has a wedding feast.
The first groups invited ignored the invitation, and some killed the servants who issued the invitation. Enraged, the king said, "The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find."
The parable was about the Jews who rejected Jesus (the bridegroom). They were the first ones invited. But upon their refusal, all (Gentiles) were invited. The same concept holds true today. All are invited to the feast. But many will make excuses and some will be downright hostile toward the inviters. That's okay. It's part of the plan. Be sure that you don't refuse the invitation to the feast, and be sure to invite others.
Father, have mercy on those who refuse your invitation the the wedding feast of the Lamb. May we remain faithful and invite others to join the feast. Amen.
