In today’s Gospel reading, we see another case of Jesus taking on the controversial topic of “working” on the sabbath. Is it okay to do good on the sabbath, to help and to heal? Of course it is.
In the first reading today we begin a journey through St. Paul’s Letter to the Philippians. Today we read, “I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.” That “one who began a good work in you” is, of course, God.
This is a great reminder that we are a work in progress. We should always be moving closer to God. God is faithful, and is always helping us, continuing to complete that good work that he has started in us. We’ll never get there completely until we reign with him in heavenly glory. Because being a Christian is not a destination, it is a journey. May you have peace on your journey today.
Father, thank you for beginning a good work in us. May we always be open to your continued work in our lives, as we progress toward you. Amen.
