In the first reading today from Acts 3, Peter tells the people that it was not they (Peter and his companions) who had healed the crippled man, but the power of God. In the Gospel reading from Luke 24, Jesus appears to the disciples and asks for something to eat to reassure them that He was not a ghost. He then “opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.”
In addressing the people at Solomon’s Portico, Peter tells the people, “Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away, and that the Lord may grant you times of refreshment and send you the Christ already appointed for you, Jesus…” I’m struck by this phrase “times of refreshment” coming up in the Octave of Easter. How appropriate for us!
We just finished a long Lent. Hopefully, it was a time of repentance for us. But now we have come out of the desert! We have reached our oasis, the Promised Land, the Resurrection! Alleluia! As we bask in the reality of the risen Jesus, knowing that by His resurrection we will never taste death, may this be a time of refreshment for us. Hear in your heart the words that Jesus speaks first to the disciples in today’s Gospel reading, “Peace be with you.”
Father, we thank you for giving us this time of refreshment. Help us to always rest in the knowledge that Jesus us risen! Amen!
If you would love a beautiful time of refreshment, join Gus and Michelle and Fr. Leo on their Danube River Cruise Pilgrimage September 13-24, 2023. There are just a few cabins left! Get details and register here.
