We hear more about John the Baptist in today’s Gospel reading from John 5. Jesus says, “John was a burning and shining lamp, and for a while you were content to rejoice in his light. But I have testimony greater than John’s.”
In the first reading from Isaiah 56, the LORD says, “For my house shall be a house of prayer for all peoples.” This was a prophesy foretelling the time when Jew and Gentile alike would worship the one true God.
A house of prayer. This always reminds me of my disposition at Mass. Sometimes it can be tough. I look around at families with young children and remember how many times I was so distracted at Mass. God bless moms and dads that bring the children to Mass! Then I recall how, even though I have nothing to distract me, I still find myself not paying attention. I hope I can do better. I pray that every time we enter God’s house, it will indeed be a house of prayer for all.
Father, we thank you for the privilege of being able to enter your house. May it always be a prayerful experience, as we lift our hearts and minds to you. Amen.
