A Family Divided

Posted on

Wouldn't it be nice if the whole world were united in Christ Jesus. Sadly, that's not the case. And if we take this idea down to the core, even many families are not united in Christ. But Jesus Himself said this would be the case.

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 12, Jesus said, "Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father,  a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

I believe one of the most heart breaking situations is when a family is divided by matters of faith. Children rebel against their parents and reject the faith or are influenced by the world and profess to be atheists. We all see it, and from my perspective, it seems to be an ever growing trend. This should make us double down on our prayers for all families who suffer from this division.

Father, we pray for our family members who have fallen away from the faith. May you bless them and open their ears to hear your call to return to you through Christ our Lord. Amen.
