KNOW THIS VERSE!

Sometimes we can be so thick-headed that God needs to use a (metaphoric) 2x4 over the head to get our attention. Such was the case with Saul of Tarsus, aka St. Paul. Jesus knocked him to the ground, spoke to him and took away his eyesight in order to get through to him. Read about it in today's first reading.

We're back in John 6 for the Gospel reading. This is where Jesus makes His boldest and clearest statements about eating His Flesh and drinking His Blood. As Catholics, we take Jesus at His word - literally. And today we find what I believe is one verse that every Catholic should know, chapter and verse.

"For my Flesh is true food, and my Blood is true drink." - John 6:55  I encourage every Catholic to memorize it, chapter and verse. This verse is so important because Jesus speaks of the reality of the Eucharist. The host we take at Mass is not just a symbolic presence of Jesus. It is His Flesh - true food. And the chalice contains His Blood - true drink. As Catholics, we believe Jesus meant what He said and said what He meant.

Father, we thank you for the Body and Blood of Christ - true food and true drink that we may partake of for everlasting life. Amen.
