Are You Convinced?

Posted on

In today's first reading from Acts 9, Peter raises a woman from the dead. It's reminiscent of the scene from Jairus' daughter's room. Powerful!

In John 6, we finish the Bread of Life discourse. Many had left Jesus after His controversial words about eating His Flesh and drinking His Blood. So Jesus asks the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?" Peter replied, "Master to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God."

It seems to me that being convinced of something is a pretty high standard. We may be skeptical or "kind of" believe something, but usually it takes quite a bit to convince us. What about Jesus? There are even many Catholics who are not convinced that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. What would it take to convince them? Are not His words enough? Are you convinced?

Father, thank you for you loving care of us, and for the comfort and peace we receive through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
