Gus talks about a political ad that's currently airing in Ohio from Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights that, at one point, shows a man in what appears to be a Catholic Church praying in front of an image of the Divine Mercy. The people of Ohio will be voting yes or no on Issue 1, which would enshrine abortion into state law. The ad is very deceptive and designed to sow confusion among Catholics and/or assuage any feelings of guilt over voting yes. Gus invites listeners to call in and comment on the ad and the tactic.
Also, Fr. Leo Patalinghug calls in for the first time since before he and Gus went on their Danube River Cruise Pilgrimage together. They both had Holy Land pilgrimages scheduled in the near future and they talk about the fate of those in light of the Israel-Hamas War that started in October 7th and continues with no end in sight. They talk about the history of that region, some of the misunderstanding by westerners who support Hamas and how true peace can only be achieved in belief of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Afterwards, the talk about the Synod on Synodality in Rome, which is wrapping up, and the topic of ordination of women that keeps coming up and the mixed messaging coming from some bishops around the world about blessing same-sex marriages.
And Gus shares a story out of Modesto, California where two grifters who claim to be Fr. Jose Adan Gonzalez Estrada and Bishop Raul Gomez Gonzalez are charging people high prices for sacraments, teaching classes and certificates and demanding copies of birth certificates. These men are also using intimidation tactics for anyone questioning their authority. The Diocese of Stockton has issued a warning the community that these men are not priests or affiliated with the Church and should notify law enforcement if they see them or have any contact with them.
