In addition to being a bishop and the patron saint of Catholic writers, he also wrote a spiritual classic that's still being read today called "Introduction to the Devout Life." The National Catholic Register recently published her commentary on how the Supreme Court is poised to stem executive and legislative overreach. This could overturn the Chevron deference, which directs courts to federal agencies' interpretation of of the laws when the text is silent or ambiguous. It has led to abuses against organizations like the Little Sisters of the Poor and the National Marine Fisheries Service. Andrea breaks it down for listeners and how she thinks it will play out.
And Dr. Matthew Bunson of EWTN calls in to talk about the fallout that continues since the Vatican issued the document "Fiducia supplicans," which gives guidelines for priests in "blessing" same-sex couples. Dr. Bunson talks about the confusion this has caused in diocese around the world. Some countries in Africa and Asia have outright refused to implement it. The waters were further muddied by statements made by Cardinal Victor Fernandez, the head of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Pope Francis' insistence that this is reaching out to the marginalized and that "dissenters" don't understand. On the other side, the bishops in Africa universally agree that they cannot bless sin and will not abide by this.
