Gus is joined by Deacon Matthew Newsome, author of the new book "The Devout Life: A Modern Guide to Practical Holiness with St. Francis de Sales," available from Sophia Insitute Press. Deacon Matthew shares his conversation story, as well as his vocation story to the diaconate, before talking about his book, which puts St. Francis de Sales' spiritual classic, "Introduction to the Devout Life," first published in 1619, into contemporary understanding.
Also, Gus talks about the "pearl of great price," which was the theme of yesterday's Sunday Gospel from Matthew. He reflects on the reading and talks about what he heard about it at yesterday's mass and at past masses.
And, before Gus does a couple rounds of Tell Me Something Good with listeners, he talks a little about St. Ignatius of Loyola, the saint whose feast we celebrate today.
