Radio Guests for Tuesday, March 31

March 31st, 2009 Posted in Radio Guests

Immigration is one of the most complicated issues of our time. Voices on all sides argue strongly for action and change. Christians find themselves torn between the desire to uphold laws and the call to minister to the vulnerable. Jenny Hwang, Co-Author of Welcoming the Stranger, and Director of Advocacy and Policy for the Refugee and Immigration Program at World Relief joined me today to tackle this important subject.

Everyday Hero Mike Florak was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, which features flu-like symptoms, at the age of 22 in 1989. Florak suffered eight flare ups of the disease in eight years. He survived bouts with depression, four blood transfusions, and eight surgeries, including the removal of his entire large intestine in 1996. He fought back to continue with his college baseball coaching career. He was named head baseball coach at Waynesburg (Pa) University in 1997.

Flood-weary homeowners watched Monday as the waterline inched down the trunks of sunken trees in Fargo, sparking hope that the worst of the damage caused by the rising and marauding Red River was over. But they aren’t out of the woods yet. Most Rev. Samuel J. Aquila, Bishop of Fargo, spoke with me about communicating with flood authorities and contacting the many Catholic parishes in the areas of concern, and how he is working to stay informed of the needs of individuals and communities throughout the Diocese.
