Catholic author Dawn Beutner calls in to talk about her new book, "The Leaven of the Saints: Bringing Christ Into a Fallen World," available from Ignatius Press. Dawn talks about hundreds of saints in a way that shows not only their dedication to Jesus but also reflects their humanity, reminding us of the old adage, every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future.
Also, Dr. Matthew Bunson of EWTN News calls in to talk about some Catholic news items of interest, including World Youth Day. Dr. Bunson got a front row seat of the global event, which took place in Lisbon, Portugal last month. Pope Francis did attend and over 1.5 million people attended his mass at the end of the three-day event. He also talks about the devastation from the wildfires in Maui, Hawaii. Dr. Bunson, a native Hawaiian, talks about the Catholic community there and how it's been impacted. Lastly, he talks about how the New Jersey Supreme Court overturned the decision by a lower court that St. Theresa School in Kenilworth was within its rights to not renew the contract of former teacher Victoria Cristello after it was revealed she became pregnant out of wedlock, which violated her morals clause.
And at the end of today's Gospel reading from Matthew, Jesus tells his disciples, "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Gus talks about the myriad of things this means for us as Christians, but particularly the power of praying together. He invites listeners who are in prayer groups to call in and talk about their experiences.
