Gus talks about today’s First Reading from Acts where, in the name of Jesus, Peter cures a crippled beggar of his disability. Gus talks about how most of us can’t miraculously cure people of their ills, but that we can give time, food and money. Gus asks listeners to call in and share what they do whenever they encounter a panhandler.

Later, Mark Hart the Bible Geek calls in to talk about a new Ascension Press program he’s involved with called Encounter. It’s a Bible study course geared to middle school kids. Mark has been involved with the popular youth ministry Lifeteen for nearly 30 years now and talks about how it’s geared to teens and tweens based off his experiences and research.

Afterwards, inspired by his conversation with Mark, Gus talks about youth ministry from when he was a kid, which he says was virtually non-existent. He invites listeners to call in and talk about whether or not they had youth ministry when they were kids.

Panhandler Protocol – couldn’t call in today but wanted to share what my son did. He befriended a women he passed on his way to work each day. He started making her lunch every day even though he wouldn’t make his own lunch.
In honor of my son who has passed away, we started a local ministry similar to Michelle’s blessing bag – we collect socks and snacks, bundle them together and distribute to local shelters, about 3,000 in total this year. We encourage everyone to keep a blessing bag in their car.
