Dr. Stephen Doran, author of "To Die Well: A Catholic Neurosurgeon's Guide to the End of Life," available from Ignatius Press, calls in to talk about his book and the message he hopes it conveys. They talk about the Catholic teaching on death and dying. They also talk about brain death and organ harvesting, which our culture has introduced, which are challenging to Church teaching. He and Gus also talk about the end-of-life decisions we need to be making well before that day comes, including a living will, power of attorney and other things. Also, they cover despair and suicide and how they've become much more rampant in our society. Dr. Doran is also a permanent deacon, and he talks a little about his vocation and an incredible and beautiful story that's in the book about helping a sick priest deal with death.
Afterwards, inspired by his conversation with Dr. Doran, Gus invites listeners who knew a loved one who died well, aka had a holy death, to call in and share it.
