Today is the Feast of St. Augustine, bishop. He is arguably one of the most popular of the saints and has, perhaps, the most notable conversion stories. He was very intelligent, but worldly and debaucherous and, for many long years, the focus of his mother St. Monica's prayers. It wasn't until he met the bishop of Milan, St. Ambrose, that the fires of his conversion were stoked. Years ago, Gus' bride Michelle gave him the book "Augustine Day By Day" as a gift following his own reversion to the Catholic faith. In it are 365 pearls of wisdom from the great saint's writings and it's become an annual tradition for listeners to call in, provide a date, and have Gus go to that page and dispense a spiritual nugget for them to ruminate and pray on throughout the day.
Later, Gus is joined by Susan Ciancio of the American Life League and the Culture of Life Studies Program. Planned Parenthood of America, which is the largest facilitator of abortions in the U.S., regularly visits public school to preach the culture of death and Susan and others at her organizations provide resources and strategies to counter their destructive message. She shares many with Gus and the listeners.
